Cover Crops Increase N and P Cycling and Rice Productivity in Temperate Cropping Systems

چکیده

Cover crops can determine positive benefits on soil fertility and rice productivity, although scant attention has been devoted to evaluating the effects of hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth) incorporation straw with different N fertilization levels P availability crop yields in temperate cropping systems characterized by poorly developed soils. In this study, cover grown before a mono-cropping system (NW Italy) on: (i) yield components; (ii) apparent fertilizer recovery optimal level vetch; (iii) temporal variation available forms during growth season, have investigated. The cultivation increased grain productivity 12%, while reducing mineral requirements 33%. Combined residues, provided input 178 18 kg ha−1, respectively, representing readily source for plant uptake over whole particularly under anaerobic conditions. This results better synchronization nutrient demand, leading quality performance.

Cover crops support ecological intensification of arable cropping systems

A major challenge for agriculture is to enhance productivity with minimum impact on the environment. Several studies indicate that cover crops could replace anthropogenic inputs and enhance crop productivity. However, so far, it is unclear if cover crop effects vary between different cropping systems, and direct comparisons among major arable production systems are rare. Here we compared the sh...

Replacing bare fallows with cover crops in fertilizer-intensive cropping systems: A meta-analysis of crop yield and N dynamics

The availability of Haber-Bosch nitrogen (N) has permitted agricultural intensification and increased the productive capacity of agroecosystems; however, approximately 50% of this applied fertilizer N is lost from agricultural landscapes. Extensive efforts have been devoted to improving the N use efficiency of these systems. Diversified crop rotations using cover crops to provide a variety of e...

Analysing productivity in intercropping systems ANALYSIS OF THE PRODUCTIVITY OF UPLAND RICE AND COVER CROPS IN RELAY INTERCROPPING SYSTEMS USING A MECHANISTIC COMPETITION MODEL

Relay intercropping systems with rice cultivars (WAB450-24-3-2-P18-HB (V4) and WAB56-50), the competitive Cajanus cajan and the weakly competitive Stylosanthes hamata were evaluated in the tropical savanna zone in Côte d’Ivoire. The INTERCOM model for competition served for data analysis and understanding of the system based on phenological, physiological and morphological characteristics of th...

Effects of Winter Cover Crops Residue Returning on Soil Enzyme Activities and Soil Microbial Community in Double-Cropping Rice Fields

Residue management in cropping systems is useful to improve soil quality. However, the studies on the effects of residue management on the enzyme activities and microbial community of soils in South China are few. Therefore, the effects of incorporating winter cover crop residue with a double-cropping rice (Oryza sativa L.) system on soil enzyme activities and microbial community in Southern Ch...
